How I got into Tech

This is probably a new shift for this blog as I will be catching you up on what has been happening lately. I haven’t posted anything on this blog for over a year and the main reason is that I have been going through a significant change in my life both socially and career-wise.

So, I am now a full-stack developer, yay! How did that happen? My husband is a software engineer and towards the end of 2022, he got a side gig to write a project that he already had for Windows but this time for Mac. He is a Windows guy, and so he had to learn Swift (the programming language for Apple.) Being that he programs mostly in C and C++, you can imagine that wasn’t very hard for him to pick up and he thought it would be the same for a total beginner like me, coming from a business background.

At that time, I didn’t have a job and he said, I could learn a new skill and see whether “it was my thing.” At that point, I had been blogging on WordPress for about five years, but all I was doing was dragging and dropping the already-made themes for the look and feel of my websites, there was not much programming that went into it.

However, the idea of writing code did feel intimidating if am being honest, but not impossible. I went into a lot of research, just like with everything else in my life. I dug through YouTube videos only to realize that there were so many people who had self-taught how to program. I specifically ran into a guy on YouTube called the internet-made coder and he was explaining his journey from studying economics to being a software developer. This was the biggest green flag because economics wasn’t that different from Accounting (which was my background).

He mentioned CS50X, which I ended up taking between October 2022 and June 2023 and my programming journey was on the roll. I have made a ton of mistakes which I will be sharing here, but I have also learned so many things that I would love to share too, so stay tuned.

I will be writing often, whether that is my programming journey or code-specific blogs so, see you in the next one.
